Comhairle Ceantar na nOileán Teo has a commitee of 13 members. Their task is to promote local development and preserve the area of Ceantar na nOileán. The commitee were democratically elected by local people in August 2000, and this method has remained since then.

In 2009, they moved to new offices in Tiranee Hall. The new building was officially opened by the then Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív.

The main aims of the commitee are:-

  1. To promote economic, social, and cultural needs in the area.
  2. Recognise the basic needs of the people and improve the standard of living.
  3. Recognise the need for employment, social venues, pastime venues, public services, heritage and infrastructure. Establish plans to develop these needs.
  4. Promote groups in the community, the young, the old, women and enemployed. Help and advise local committees.
  5. Conserve the area surrounding the Islands.
  6. Co-operate with the private sector to promote community projects.
  7. Ensure lines of communication remain open between local committees.
